Zella Bell Harris was born on September 28, 1926 near Cement, OK to Elzy Ely Wood and Ethel Elisabeth (Simond) Wood and passed away on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford, at the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 2 days.
Zella was raised in Cement, OK. She met and married Oscar (Pete) Madison Walker and had a daughter, Charlene. Pete passed away not long after they married. Zella was raising her daughter and working at the Cement Drugstore when she met Virgil Harris. Virgil and Zella married in March 1946 and had a son, Melvin. Virgil and Zella operated several businesses in Cement, including the Texico Station, Apco Station, and the Cement Hotel and Laundry, before selling out and moving the family to Texas, Kansas and New Mexico where Virgil worked in the oilfield. Zella worked in the grocery store industry in Farmington, NM as a checker for 19 years and retired from Smith's in 1986. Zella and Virgil then moved back to Oklahoma to live out their retirement years in Chickasha. In 2009, Zella and Virgil made their final move to Weatherford to be closer to family.
Zella and her late husband, Virgil, loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with family. Zella was a lifelong Christian and loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was extremely active in the church throughout her life and always strived to help bring others to salvation through Jesus Christ.
Zella was proceeded in death by her husband of 70 years, Virgil Harris, her mother and father, sister Juanita Walker, brother Orvil Wood (Woody), and first husband Oscar (Pete) Madison Walker.
Zella is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Walker) Ashcraft and husband Charles of Weatherford, OK, son Melvin Harris and wife Debbie of Puyallup, WA; five grandchildren, John Ashcraft, Charla (Ashcraft) Hursh, Michele Harris, Jaime (Harris) Zwiefelhofer, and Rebecca (Harris) Holcombe; 7 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren, and a special niece, Pauline Mahan of Norman, OK.
