Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM Thursday, January 9th, 2014St. Eugene Catholic Church

Funeral services for Zaragosa Shorty Aranda, 88 year-old Hydro, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Christopher Tran officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. There will be a Wake service at funeral home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 8:00 PM.

Shorty was born December 6, 1925 in Dilley, Texas to Octavio and Teresa (Navarro) Aranda and passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at home. Shorty was raised and attended school in Dilley, Texas. He served in World War II for the Army, Company C 11th Battalion, until 1946. On, March 21, 1949, he married Felipa Villanueva in Dilley, Texas where they made their home and he worked as a mechanic. Together they had 9 children. In 1966, they moved to Hydro, Oklahoma where he worked as a mechanic at Slim Boyd Chevrolet and Buckmaster Ford in Hydro, Oklahoma. He then went to work at Jameson Chevrolet in Weatherford, Oklahoma until he retired in 1991. Shorty liked to fish, hunt, and tinker on anything he could in his garage. He also enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

Shorty is survived by four sons: Joe Aranda and his wife, Regina of Florida, Rosendo Aranda and his wife, Connie of Hydro, Oklahoma, Alex Aranda and his wife, Marcia of Elk City, Oklahoma, Daniel Aranda of Weatherford, Oklahoma; four daughters: Olivia Rodriquez and Alfredo Montes of Clinton, Oklahoma, Rosalinda Hall of the home in Hydro, Oklahoma, Maria Aranda and James Red Alexander of Mississippi, and Sandra Bowmaker and her husband, Donovan of Weatherford, Oklahoma; three grandchildren he raised as his own, Melissa McMaster of Clinton, Oklahoma, David Hall of the home in Hydro, Oklahoma, and Rossio Rodriguez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nineteen grandchildren: Maurico Rodriguez, Jesse Aranda, Jonathon Aranda, Carlos Aranda, Gina Aranda, Sammy Aranda, Adam Aranda, Nicole Aranda, Joseph Aranda, Kelsey Aranda, Felicia Buckner, Christina Buckner, Jequita Aranda, Kalynn Aranda, Logan Aranda, Juliana Aranda, Shamar Malone, Darian Malone, and Gustavo Aranda; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Audelio Aranda of Wisconsin; two sisters: Dolores Aranda and Paula Pulis, and one nephew: Mario Aranda all of Texas; and his loving pet dog, Butter, that was always by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents: Octavio and Teresa Aranda; wife: Felipa Aranda; one son: Jesus Aranda; three brothers: Octavio Aranda, Jr., Manuel Aranda, and Caterino Aranda; and a sister: Juana Aranda.
