Weldon Ray
Miller
January 26, 1950 – November 8, 2025
Weldon Ray Miller was born January 26, 1950, in Thomas, Oklahoma to Glen and Ella (Detweiler) Miller, and passed away surrounded by family in Weatherford on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Weldon was raised on the family homestead north of Weatherford alongside his two older brothers, Roland and Lyle, and younger sister, Glenda. While working on the farm as a boy, he would listen to radio broadcasts of the legendary Oklahoma Sooners football games and dreamed of one day attending a game - which he finally did while a student at Corn Bible Academy. While at CBA, he discovered an even greater love. Here, he met Phyllis Penner, a junior from the Oklahoma Panhandle living in the girls' dormitory. They quickly began courting, and he gave her a new reason to feel at home in western Oklahoma. They married on December 19, 1970 at the Balko Mennonite Brethren Church. Following time playing basketball, baseball and soccer at Hesston College in Kansas, Weldon graduated with a business degree from SWOSU in Weatherford and soon was called by Selective Service. To fulfill his commitment, he chose the option to work for Mennonite Board of Missions in administration at a children's hospital in Mantua, Ohio. It was here that Weldon and Phyllis welcomed their first child, Thad Sheldon Miller. Upon moving back to the family farm in Weatherford, the couple welcomed two daughters: April Kelly and Misti Dawn.
In addition to farming, Weldon started several businesses and founded Ag-Renewal Inc. in 1981. He has manufactured grass harvesters ever since. He spent decades traveling the country to attend various farm and conservation focused conferences to market his product. Through these travels, he generated an extensive network of business partners and friends. He thrived on striking up conversations about work, sports and politics with people he'd only just met. However, the travels weren't always for business. He organized countless ski trips for large groups of family, friends, and sometimes strangers. Upon outliving his interest in skiing, he shifted his focus to take groups to Hawaii, Branson, and many other family-oriented destinations.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ella Miller, parents-in-law, Alvin and Esther Penner, and his sister-in-law, Ruth Miller.
Weldon is lovingly survived by his wife, Phyllis Miller; son Sheldon Miller and wife Lindy of Weatherford; daughter April Javorsky and husband Kenton of Bessie; daughter Misti Miller and Chris Henson of Weatherford; brother Roland Miller of Wamego, KS; brother Lyle Miller and wife Joyce of Weatherford; sister Glenda Schmidt and husband Steve of Hesston, KS; grandson Wesley Javorsky of Yukon; granddaughter Kimberly Lippencott and husband Braygan of Inwood, WV; grandson Phillip Javorsky and wife Miriam of Weatherford; grandsons Graham and Tripp Miller of Weatherford; granddaughters Ella and Tess Miller of Weatherford; and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Betty Penner of Perryton, TX.
Weldon will be remembered for his love of family, travel, sports, and the Lord. He made an impact on the numerous friends and colleagues he made throughout his life, and his desire was that they, too, would experience the same eternal hope that he had throughout his time on earth.
