Funeral services for Ward Jay Maynard, 87 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Ward was born February 20, 1925 in Mountain Home, Arkansas to Ernest N. and Iva Mae (Kirkland) Maynard and passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Division of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ward was raised north of Weatherford and attended Cottonwood Rural School. He served in the Navy as a gunners mate in Pacific Theatre. On August 20, 1946, Ward married Lillie Mae Harris in Weatherford and made their home there. They lived in Arkansas, Texas and in 1963 moved to Elk City where he worked at the golf course. In 1973, they moved back to Weatherford where he worked at the golf course until he retired in 1992 and later worked for the City of Weatherford for 10 years. Ward enjoyed golfing and reading history. Memorials may be made to the Weatherford Golf Course.

Ward is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillie Mae Maynard of their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma; three sons, Vernon Maynard and wife, Kathy of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Roy Maynard and wife, Nelda of Concho, Oklahoma, and John Maynard and wife, Georgia of El Reno, Oklahoma; one daughter, Joyce Ridley of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one brother, Earl Dean Maynard and wife, Janice of Arco, Idaho; three sisters, Mary Page and husband, Ed of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Eula Fay Payne of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Alice Branson of Hydro, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dorothy Lanelle; and two brothers, R.L. and D.V.
