Obituary

Having lived a full life, Vivian (Ruckman) McDougle passed peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, in her home surrounded by family at 98 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Vivian was born on May 24, 1925, in Hydro Oklahoma to Odis Garfield Ruckman and Della Mae (Weathers) Ruckman. She grew up the second of four children:  Cecil Ruckman, Bobbie Ruckman, and Vonda (Ruckman) McPhearson, and surrounded by over 60 cousins.

Vivian graduated from Hydro High School in 1942 at 17 years of age. After attending business school in Oklahoma City, she became a lifelong learner attending various classes via college and work programs. She was primarily drawn to classes related to finance and investing, and unwavering interest.

While working at the theater in Hydro, her brother came in and she, naturally, stuck her tongue out at him. The owner saw and counseled, "Now Vivian, we need to be friendly to our customers." So, she gave her best smile to the next person she saw; she and Joseph Allen McDougle were married that December on the 5th of 1942 in Weatherford Oklahoma.

Their marriage was blessed with three children: Billy Joe McDougle, Rita Carol Corlee, and Rhonda Rea Riley. After moving back and forth between Oklahoma and Alabama (Joe's home state), they settled in the Florence Alabama area where they lived for 26 years.

Having worked multiple jobs, including one day as a plane spotter during World War II, Vivian retired from Reynolds Metals in 1985 after 23 years. After retirement, she leveraged her previous learning and love of finance working selling investment instruments, primarily securities, and mutual funds. In her 90s she published a book for children on money management and investing. The book blended general investment and money management fundamentals into behavioral advice; she always believed one could not begin learning these skills too early.

Having both retired, Vivian and Joe decided to move back to Oklahoma, settling in Weatherford in 1986. Always energetic, Vivian's retirement exploits included building and managing (and eventually selling) a trailer park, working as a candy striper at the local hospital, and running a much sought-after infant daycare from her home. She even published a second book of reminisces to document extended family history and stories.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Cecil and Vonda, her husband Joe and a granddaughter (Emily Riley).

She is survived by her brother:  Bobbie Ruckman (Deanna) of Oscoda Michigan; her children:  Bill McDougle (Pat) of Weatherford Oklahoma, Rita Corlee (Rodney) of Weatherford Oklahoma, and Rhonda Riley (Craig) of San Antonio Texas; five grandchildren:  Joe "Will" McDougle (Kim) of Leland North Carolina, Sean McDougle (Amber) of Moore Oklahoma, Amy Hunter of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Becky Storm (Brandon) of Elk City Oklahoma and Tim Riley of San Antonio Texas; fourteen great-grandchildren:  Bryant, Dylan, Brooklyn and Ryan McDougle, Jillian Calhoun, Taylor, Olivia, Addison and Liam McDougle, Bradey Washa, Connor Hunter (Stephanie), Kindon Kaiser (Melissa), and Campbell and Luke Jacobsma; and four great-great-grandchildren.
