Virgil was born September 6, 1922 in Hydro, Oklahoma to Ross and Oma (Thomas) Phipps and graduated to glory Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the blessed age of 90 in Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma.

Virgil was more commonly and fondly known by everyone as Bing a name given to him by his high school principle because he bore a strong resemblance to Bing Crosby and he was always singing and whistling.

Toward the end of his senior year he and several other Hydro boys quit school and went to Chickasha to attended Foundry School. Upon completion they went to Connecticut to work in an aircraft parts plant but before too long WWII was looming large and he and some of his friends returned to enlist. Being enlisted in the Navy serving until the war ended.

Upon returning home safely from the war he met his next big challenge and married her after a short courtship. Bing married Glennie Arthurs on May 18, 1946. They made their home in Hydro and had two children, Sherry and seven years later, Terry whose time here was far too short.

Bing is survived by his daughter, Sherry Knisley and husband, Larry; his grandson, Caleb Baker to whom he was always really his Dad; his great-grandson, Casey Baker; his three sisters, Retha, Carolyn, and Marilyn; and brother, Kurt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Oma; his wife, Glennie; his son, Terry; his sister, Zellorah; and his brother, Junior.

Bing was just born with laughter on his lips and a melody in his heart. He was enjoyed and loved by many. You didnt have to see him to know that he was there, his happy whistle filled the air wherever he wentoh and not to be forgotten his homemade fudge and peanut brittle were heaven sent.
