Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016, 1:30 P.M. at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro for residents and staff.

Vera was born July 30, 1922, in Canton, Kansas to Joseph S. and Clara (Bitikofer) Loucks and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma. Vera married Jesse S. Diener November 13, 1945, in Canton, Kansas and they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary shortly before his death. They worked closely together on a farm near Canton, Kansas.

Vera accepted Christ at an early age and attended Spring Valley Mennonite church where she was a member. She taught childrens Sunday school and Bible School for many years.

Vera had a love for quilting and over the years made many quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and was known for her green thumb and baking cookies with many of her Sunday school students. She also has a love for music and could play the piano, organ, accordion and omnichord by ear and later shared this love with her daughters and family. Over the years she spent many hours sharing and ministering to the residents at various nursing homes. Everywhere Vera went, she had a word of encouragement or a smile for those she met. Her energetic and positive attitude was very contagious, and her hospitality was enjoyed by many.

After the death of her husband in 1995, Vera relocated to Weatherford, Oklahoma where she enjoyed being close to children and grandchildren. She adjusted to this transition by continuing to share her quilting, cooking and singing with her new church family and community outreach. She attended Pleasant View Mennonite Church. She was known to many as Grandma Vera.

In the past several years, her home was at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford and Corn, Oklahoma and later Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma. The family would like to thank the staff in these facilities for helping her adjust and the loving care she received while in their care.

Vera is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Stutzman and husband, Robert of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Shirley Barker and husband, Lonnie of Elkhart, Indiana; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; four brothers; and her husband of fifty years.

Memorials may be made to Gideon International, Clinton Gideon Camp, PO Box 281, Clinton, OK 73601 or Wydiffe Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200.
