Obituary

Troy Kent Schmidt was born July 15, 1962, in Weatherford, OK to Wesley G. and Frances (Penner) Schmidt and passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at home in Weatherford surrounded by his family, at the age of 58 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

Troy attended Weatherford Public School, graduating in 1980.  He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1985 with a BS Degree in Computer Science. Troy had a successful career as a contact software developer for IBM, NASA, American Airlines and other companies. Troy's career eventually took him to Rochester, NY where he simultaneously pursued his passion for Drum and Bugle Corps.

In 1998, Troy's Drum and Bugle Corp was performing at various venues in Erie, PA one of these performances, Troy met the love of his wife, and future wife, Amy Strayer.  They were married July 30, 2004 in Key West, FL while aboard the Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas. This was the first of an incredible number of cruises, sporting events, ski trips, sightseeing tours, and family reunions as a married couple. Troy and Amy wintered in Boca Raton, FL and summered in Erie, PA. They had a love for water, and they always had a home with a waterfront view. Troy referred to his time with Amy as fairytale life! He was someone that made friends quickly with laughter and joy in abundance and was always very generous with his time and resources.

Troy is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Louise (Swanson; Strayer) Schmidt of Erie, PA; step-daughter, Shelby Strayer Roberts and husband, Brad of Cleveland, OH; step-son, Kyle Strayer and his wife, Lally of Erie, PA; 5 adoring grandchildren, John, Samuel and Zachary Roberts; Brantley and Everett Strayer; parents, Wes and Frances Schmidt of Weatherford, OK; mother-in-law, Ann Swanson Dagit and husband, Hank of Estero, FL; brother, Rick and wife, Vonnie of Weatherford, OK; brother, Bob and wife, Terri of Germantown, MD; sister, Cindy Schmidt West and husband, Darrell of Sand Springs, OK; brother-in-law, Bobby (Sawnny)Swanson and wife, Cheryl of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law, Billy Swanson and wife, Halle of Miami, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Reed Swanson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association in honor of his wife Amy or Glioblastoma Brain Cancer researcher in honor of Troy.
