Mingus

Donitta Sue Mingus
January 24, 1945 - October 2, 2025
Donitta Sue Mingus, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and faithful servant of Christ, passed away peacefully at her home in Weatherford, Oklahoma, on October 2, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on January 24, 1945, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, Sue graduated from Anadarko High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. It was in Anadarko where she met the love of her life, Robert, with whom she shared a lifelong love story that began in high school. They were married on March 22, 1967, and built a beautiful life together, raising their two daughters in Weatherford in a home filled with love, faith and laughter.
Sue began her professional life as a high school home economics teacher at Corn Bible Academy. After the birth of their first daughter, Deleise, she chose to dedicate herself full-time to being a mother and homemaker. Once her daughters were older, Sue returned to work as a secretary for Public Service Company in Weatherford. She later worked at Pink Turtle Gifts where for decades she became known across town as the go-to person when anyone needed just the right gift for their loved one. Later in life, her love for children eventually brought her out of retirement to teach at the Children's Day Out program at First Baptist Church. She also served as the wedding coordinator at the church where she showed her passion for making every bride's day joyful and stress-free.
To know Sue was to experience her energy, joy, warmth and hospitality. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel seen and loved. She was deeply devoted to her family and created a home that was a haven of comfort, laughter and unconditional love.
Sue's faith was the foundation of her life. A longtime active member of First Baptist Church, she and Robert faithfully taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She was passionate about sharing God's love with others and lived each day with a heart full of grace, compassion, and purpose. Sue will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
Sue is survived by her husband, Robert Mingus, of Weatherford; daughters Deleise Klaassen (David) and Erica Ward (Terry), both of Edmond, Oklahoma; and her grandchildren Garrett Klaassen (Jenna), Tristan Ward (Carolyn), Tyler Klaassen (Shaylin), Rahbin Ward, Taryn Geary (Tim), Riley Hershberger (Ethan), and Cole Klaassen (Gabby). She was also blessed with seven great grandchildren: Salem Klaassen, Tommy Klaassen, Emery Ward, plus Emmett, Ruby and Nora Hershberger who were born just eight hours before her passing, and Wiley Klaassen coming later this month. She is also survived by her brother Nick Nixon (Rhonda) of Chickasha, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law Carolyn Jessee of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Irene Nixon, and her brothers, Johnny and Larry Nixon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
