Shirley Moselle Rigsby was born June 8, 1939 in Thomas to Chalis Jack and Zelma (Crum) Deaton and passed away Tuesday July 6, 2021 in Thomas surrounded by family, at the age of 82 years and 27 days.
Shirley was raised west of Thomas on the family farm and attended school in Custer City, graduating in 1957. On May 26, 1957, she married Kenneth Rigsby in Custer where they made their home. After moving around for several years, the couple settled in Thomas where Shirley worked as a Medical Records Clerk for the hospital for 17 years until it closed. She went to work for the Okeene hospital until she was elected to office as Treasurer for the City of Thomas until her retirement in 2007.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; hosting the family during the holidays and playing card games for hours on end afterwards. Shirley also enjoyed dancing, taking vacations with family, watching her grandchildren, taking care of her flowers, and most importantly taking care of her dog Dixie. She also enjoyed attending Gene Watson concerts.
Shirley is survived by one son Chad Rigsby and wife Taffy, three daughters Donita Brown and husband Derral, Alessia Raker, and Arlette Rigsby, brother Henry Deaton, sister Linda Gail Unwin and husband Jerry. As well as six grandchildren; Misty Christensen, Skylar Rigsby, Josh Switzer, Tanna Gibson, Emily Wallace, and Chris Brown and eleven great-grandchildren; Hudson Christensen, Grayson and Lexi Rigsby, Bryson and Brynlee Switzer, Ashlynn and Brodie Gibson, Peyton and Preston Wallace, and Owen and Lily Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Dennis and Mike Deaton, and grandson Chance Rigsby.
