Funeral services for Sharla Michelle (Unruh) Dougherty, 53 year-old Lawton, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Hydro, Oklahoma with Brandon Blacksten officiating. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Michelle was born March 2, 1960 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Nelson and Betty (Smith) Unruh and passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Michelle was raised south of Hydro, Oklahoma attended school in Hydro and graduated from Hydro High School in 1978. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for 3 years. On April 8, 1983, she married John Paul Dougherty in Hydro and they made their home in Weatherford. Michelle worked for Hamm and Phillips, Weatherford Regional Hospital, True Value in Hydro and settled in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1986. She then worked for the Department of Human Services for 9 years and Indiahoma Schools for 6 years. She and John Paul have been foster parents for 26 years to hundreds of children since 1984 which led them to the adoption of their daughters, Briann age 17 and Miranda age 12. Michelle was very involved in the girls activities which included basketball, softball, beauty pagents, 4-H and F.F.A. She also enjoyed fishing, crafting, and spending time with family. Memorials may be made to the Circle of Care at the Methodist Church.

Michelle is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Paul Dougherty of their home in Lawton, Oklahoma; two daughters, Briann Dougherty and Miranda Dougherty of their home in Lawton, Oklahoma; two brothers, Mike Unruh and wife, Rachel of Elk City, Oklahoma and Marlin Unruh and wife, Lisa of Hydro, Oklahoma; and her parents, Nelson and Betty Unruh of Hydro, Oklahoma.
