Ruth Elaine
Hicks
April 20, 1955 – December 11, 2025
Ruth Elaine (Cooley) Hicks was born on April 20, 1955, to Charles Raymond Cooley and Doris Lou (Barnard) Cooley, and went to her heavenly home on December 11, 2025, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, at the age of 70 years.
Ruth spent her childhood in Eastern Oklahoma as the daughter of a Methodist minister – an upbringing that shaped the warmth and compassion she carried throughout her life.
Ruth graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1974. She lived in Alva following graduation and later moved to Woodward with her twin sister, Romona.
Ruth was a hardworking woman whose life's path took her through a variety of roles. She spent several years working for Walmart, where she met the love of her life, G.W. Hicks, in 1987. The two were married in a courthouse ceremony on December 16, 1988. They welcomed their son, Greg, in 1990. Ruth loved motherhood and stayed home with Greg until 1995, when she returned to work at the local meat butcher shop and as a custodian for Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Ruth and G.W. operated a dog-boarding business named "Slobber and Sleep", where her affection for working with animals grew. She found joy in caring for her beloved dogs, nurturing plants and houseplants, collecting jewelry, and listening to rock and roll music.
Ruth will be remembered above all for her generous heart and the fierce love she had for her granddaughters. Many people who had come in contact with Ruth often described her as "the kindest person one could ever meet."
She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Ramona.
She is survived by her husband G.W. Hicks; son, Greg Hicks and wife, Nicole; granddaughters Ellie, Sophie and Rylie Hicks all of Katy, TX; her brothers, Ed Cooley and wife, Ginger, of New Port Richey, FL, and Mike Cooley and wife, Mary, of Conroe, TX; and sister, Rachel Tarantola and husband, Jim, of Tulsa.
A memorial service will be held on December 22, 2025, at 10:00 A.M., in the Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home. Burial will follow later in the Woodward Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
