Robert "Bob"
Maxton Stutzman
November 6, 1946 – September 1, 2022
Bob was born November 6, 1946, in Clinton, Oklahoma to Myron J. and Esther (Miller) Stutzman and passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma. Bob was raised on the family farm north of Weatherford, and attended school in Weatherford, graduating with the Class of 1964. After high school, he completed 2 years of voluntary service as a radiology technician at a hospital in Rocky Ford, Colorado. In 1970, Bob met Phyllis Jane Diener while traveling to Iowa for a wedding with a mutual friend. They were married September 18, 1971, in Hesston, Kansas and briefly made their home in McPherson, Kansas before moving back to Weatherford. Their family quickly grew with the arrival of Karl in 1972 and then Tonia, 2 years later.
Bob grew up working on the farm with his dad, raising crops and hogs. In adulthood, he continued helping his dad while also working as an airplane mechanic for Weatherford Airport, a farm hand for Triple S farms, and as a parts man at Western Equipment. Bob operated his own feed cutting business for 9 years and then joined his dad delivering propane. For the past 25 years, Bob farmed alongside his son, Karl, and particularly loved driving tractor and feeding cows. In addition to the farm, Bob and his sister, Roberta, ran Stutzman Propane until Bob's son-in-law, Kevin Martin, took over the business in 2007. To contribute to the local farming community, Bob served on the Weatherford COOP board for 23 years. His love for farming was matched by his love for flying. Having earned his pilot's license in the early 70s, Bob enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons at the airport, talking to other pilots and flying any time he had a chance. He was an active member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church and enjoyed greeting everyone with a warm smile in his role as usher. Bob found joy in talking with people, which allowed him to easily make friends wherever he went. Bob loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Stutzman of their home north of Weatherford; his son, Karl Stutzman and wife, Brenda, of Weatherford; his daughter, Tonia Martin and husband, Kevin, of Weatherford; his twin sister, Roberta Slagle and husband, Vernon, of Weatherford; his two other sisters, Myra Swartz and husband, Karl, of Wichita, Kansas and Jaylene Balzer and husband, Barry, of Bartlesville; and his four grandchildren, Erika, Kayla, Zachary and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials can be made in Bob's honor to Pleasant View Mennonite Church's Oklahoma MDS fund.
