Funeral services for Robert Bob Eugene Smith, 87 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Stephenson and Raymond McPhearson officiating. Burial will follow in Eakly Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Bob was born January 28, 1929, at Fort Scott, Kansas, to Lewis and Emma (Bergheim) Smith and passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford. Bob was raised and attended school in Wichita, Kansas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII. On May 15, 1948, he married Twila Oglesby in Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in San Francisco, California where he worked with his brothers for 16 years at Smith Brothers Plastering. In 1958, he earned his private pilots license. Bob returned to Wichita, Kansas where he continued in the plastering business and remodeled houses for rental property. Retiring in 1995, he and Twila moved to Weatherford. Twila passed away in July 1997. In September 1997, he met his wife, Wanda Louise (Bowerman) Ridgeway. They married October 25, 1997 in Eakly, Oklahoma and made their home in Weatherford. Bob enjoyed golfing, traveling with the First National Bank First Friends and Jamboree travelers, spending time with his family and friends, and helping people. He was most proud of restoring the Indian head monument at Roman Nose State Park. Memorials may be made to the First Care Pregnancy Center or to the Weatherford Food Resource Center.
Bob is survived by his wife of 18 years, Wanda of their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma; two step-sons, Dean Ridgeway and wife, Rhonda of Colony, Oklahoma and Jim Ridgeway and wife, Debbie of Eakly, Oklahoma; one brother, Vern Smith and wife, Norma of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Erma Smith of Wichita, Kansas; five step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Twila; four brothers, Glenn, Lowell, Carlton, and Wilbert; and four sisters, Evelyn, Evangeine, Gwendolyn, and Thelma.
