Obituary

Raymond Leon McKellips, the eldest of four brothers, Richard, Terral, and Larry, was born October 28, 1927, in Custer City, Oklahoma, to Raymond and Lillian (Fuller) McKellips and passed away Monday, October 1, 2018, in Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Raymond graduated from Fay High School in 1945. He married Verda Sisson, February 9, 1946, and began employment as a Agent-Telegrapher for the Frisco Railroad, that year. Raymond was drafted into the Army later that year. After basic training he was sent to serve in Japan. During the time he was in Japan, his daughter, Judy was born. Raymond first saw her, after being discharged, when she was six months old. The family moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma to Attend Southwestern State College. After completing the required amount of education, he began teaching in Avard Public School in Avard, Oklahoma. Raymond and Verda continued their education at Northwestern State College, both teaching some in Avard and later in Fargo, Oklahoma. Both completed their bachelor's degrees at Southwestern. They moved to teach at Greenfield, Oklahoma and continued their education through summer courses at Southwestern and Oklahoma State University. After completing the Master programs at Oklahoma State, they then accepted positions at Southwestern State University. Raymond taught nine years in the public schools of Oklahoma and thirty years in the Department of Mathematics at Southwestern, retiring as Professor and Chairman.

Their first son, Roger was born May 25, 1954, second son, Kevin was born June 26, 1962 and died from encephalitis, at the age of 12, during a family vacation in Colorado.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Judy Majors and husband, Steve of Weatherford, Oklahoma; son, Roger McKellips and wife, Julie from Mustang, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Stacy Scribner and her husband, Patrick of Midland, Texas; grandson, Steven Majors, Jr. of Fort Collins, Colorado; brother, Terral McKellips and wife, Karen of Lawton, Oklahoma; great-grandsons, Dayton Deatherage of Austin, Texas, Caz Quain of Midland, Texas, Rowen Sky Majors of Fort Collins, Colorado; great-granddaughter, Sage Majors of Tacoma, Washington; sisters-in-law, Margy Threlkeld of Lynwood, California, Bonnie Whitlow and husband, Bill of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verda; two brothers, Richard and Larry; great-grandson, Forrest Deatherage; three brothers-in-law, Marvin Threlkeld, Ernie and Ruben Sisson; and four sisters-in-law, Rachel Schaffler, Jenny Sisson, Orlene Sisson and Donita Jean McKellips.
