Rachel Iona (Conner) Hess was born May 10, 1931, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, to Elmer and Berdie (Briggs) Conner and passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Homestead Assisted Living of Weatherford, at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 2 days.

Rachel was raised and attended school in Belle Fourche, South Dakota where she married Donald Glenn Hess on December 5, 1953.  They made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma for 59 years.  She stayed home with her five children until they were enrolled in school.  She later worked at the Cable TV office, and Pioneer Bank in Ponca City.  Rachel and Don moved to Weatherford in 2013 to be near family.  She enjoyed bowling, cooking and gardening.  She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family and friends.  Memorials may be made to Russell Murray Hospice in Weatherford.

Rachel is survived by four daughters, Janice Buffington and husband, Brian of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Pam Burks and husband, Rick of Lampe, Missouri; Patsy Knight and husband, Harold of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Dorothy Smith and husband, Albert of Odessa, Texas; one son, Phillip Hess and wife, Debby of Sherman, Texas; one brother, Jerry Conner and wife, Kay of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; one son, Jim Hess; grandson, Brandon Smith; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
