Porfirio Dean Washa, Jr. was born August 27, 1957, in Los Angeles, California to Porfirio Dean and Clara Belle (Bullbear) Washa and passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 60 years, 8 months, and 5 days.
Dean's family moved to Oklahoma City in 1958 and in 1965 they moved to Anadarko. He attended school at Riverside Indian School in Anadarko and later went to the Vo-Tech. Dean worked in Job Corp and later was a carpenter for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Housing. He was a member of the Native American Church – Deer Creek Chapter #1. Dean enjoyed craft work, making feather fans and rattles, playing at the casino, singing Native American Church songs and once recorded a CD.
Dean is survived by one son, Nathan Dean Wash of Gallup, New Mexico; two brothers, Oscar Washa of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Tallsun Washa of Arapaho, Oklahoma; and three sisters, Karen Yeahque, Judy Scherdin of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Rose Ann Clayborn; granddaughter, Shayla Dyer of Weatherford, Oklahoma; beloved great-grandson, Chazaray Herrera of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and his companion of 32 years, Wilma Redbird of Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Ross; and a sister, Tina Washa.
