Phillys Janet
Stevenson
December 22, 1937 – December 20, 2024
Phillys Janet Stevenson was born December 22, 1937, in Winterhaven, CA, to A.L. and Nova Kathleen (Philley) Lee and passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, December 20, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK having reached the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 28 days.
Phillys moved to Oklahoma at the age of 6. She graduated from Weatherford High School with the class of 1956 and graduated from Southwestern State College mid-term for the 1959-1960 year with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Following her graduation, she spent 1 ½ years teaching on a Navajo Reservation in Arizona. She continued taking college courses throughout her life, eventually earning her Master's degree in Education as well. On June 22, 1963, she married the love of her life John Stevenson at the First Baptist Church in Weatherford. Their family began growing in 1965 with the birth of their first daughter Janet. Their second daughter, Carol, completed their family in 1967. They moved all around Oklahoma and Kansas eventually settling in Canton, OK where she was a kindergarten – fifth grade teacher for 20 years until her retirement. She and John moved to Weatherford after Carol's high school graduation in 1985.
Phillys had a strong faith and lifelong relationship with God. She always put God first and had a great love for volunteering in her church. She loved her family. She was overjoyed when her grandson, Andrew John, was born. He was the apple of her eye and she never missed anything he did. She was gifted in art and especially enjoyed calligraphy, oil painting, and watercolor. She also enjoyed genealogy and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her loves was traveling, both to see this country and around the world, but there was no place that she was more excited to see than where she is right now in her forever home at the feet of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Some of her favorite childhood memories were their frequent travels back and forth to Long Beach, CA to visit her family.
Phillys is survived by her husband, John Stevenson of their home in Weatherford; daughter, Carol Stevenson of Weatherford; one grandson, Andrew John Stevenson and girlfriend, Isabel Newberry-Rivera of Maize, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Doris Eifert of Waukomis, OK, Jean Wilcox and husband, Garry of Plain City, OH, and Vinita Ware of Savannah, MO; family of the heart, Jesse Quintero and wife Kim, their children Jessica, Jayden, Kason, and Jessica's daughter Alayah who she considered grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Phillys was a cherished wife, mom, aunt, and "Nena" who will be missed immensely. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.L. and Nova Lee; daughter, Janet Stevenson, sister, Darlene Dabney, sister-in-law, Ruth Bird, brothers-in-law, Wayne, Leon, Merlyn Lee, Jimmie, and Duane Stevenson.
