Paula Jeanne Horsburgh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014.
Paula J. (Meckel) Horsburgh was born on October 22, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA to Frank S. and Paula A. Meckel. Paula spent her first seven years in Oakmont, PA and later moved to Parma, OH where she graduated from high school and became an LPN, graduating from the Lakewood Hospital School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to James H. Horsburgh on September 11, 1965 in Cleveland, OH. Jim and Paula later moved to Boulder, CO where they worked and attended the University of Colorado. In 1973, they moved to Weatherford, OK where they made their home and raised their two children, Jimmy and Katie.
Paula graduated from SWOSU in 1979 with a BA in Sociology and in 1992, earned an MA in Education. She taught language arts for one year at the Weatherford High School and nine years at the Weatherford Middle School.
Paula was a member of the St. Eugene Catholic Church where she served on the College Lunch Committee and for many years chaired the Landscape Committee enjoying getting to know the students and helping to improve the church grounds. She Volunteered at the Pets & People Animal Shelter in Yukon until the return of her cancer. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, serving as Treasurer for three years.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Paula and nephew Richard Scott Meckel. She is survived by her husband Jim, her son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Abby of Edmond, daughter Katie and son-in-law Bob Bartmann of Weatherford; grandchildren Carson and Nikelle Horsburgh of Edmond and Maggie Bartmann of Weatherford; two brothers Richard and wife Rose Marie Meckel of Independence, OH, Frank and wife Marilyn Meckel of Casa Grande, AZ; and numerous cousins, nieces and friends.
Paula loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was passionate about rescuing and finding homes for homeless animals. She enjoyed digging in her flowerbeds and appreciating the fruits of her labor. Paula also had such a love for Fall and pumpkins.
Memorials may be made to the Custer County Friends for Life Animal Shelter in Weatherford.
