Obituary

Orville "Larry" Leland Lawrence was born January 13, 1935 in Wellington, KS, to Ulysses and Carrie (Lawless) Lawrence and passed away at home on November 23, 2017, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 10 days.

Larry was the oldest of four children.  As a child, he moved often with his parents.  Larry attended school in Cicero, KS in a one-room school house that had eight grades, 20-25 students total, 2-3 students per grade.  He had four students in his grade.  Growing up, Orville loved to help his grandfather on the farm in the summers.  He ran the tractor, plowed, hay mower, and combine.  He disliked putting the hay in the barn or scooping oats or wheat.

Larry served in the U.S. Air Force as a medical corpsman from 1952 to 1961.  He had two overseas tours and four stateside tours.  Upon exiting active military service, he moved to Wichita, Kansas where he was employed by Martin-Marietta as a safety and medical supervisor during the construction of eighteen Titan II missile complexes in Kansas.  Upon completion of the construction, he was employed as a physician's assistant at Hatcher Hospital and Clinic in Wellington, Kansas.  He was the second licensed Physician's Assistant to be registered in the State of Kansas.  He remained in Emergency Medicine until 1977, working in Wellington, KS; Cederville, KS; and Chanute, KS.  In 1975, he met and married Rosemary Jean Sharp.  In 1978, he was employed by General Medical Corp. in Wichita, KS, as a salesman of biomedical equipment.  Larry retired from medical sales in 1998.  In his retirement, he worked part-time for Avis Car Rental in Wichita, KS.  After Rosemary's retirement, they moved to Weatherford, OK in 2013 to be close to kids and grandkids.  He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Weatherford, OK.  Larry was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion.

Larry is survived by his immediate family, wife, Rosemary, of Weatherford, OK; his son, David Lawrence and wife, Sharon, of Weatherford, OK; his daughter, Loreen Shewry and family of Swindon, England; his brother, Paul Lawrence and wife, Brenda, of Cotopaxi, CO; grandchildren, Ryan Lawrence and wife, Morgan, of Topeka, KS; Carrie Boelte and husband, Remington, of Weatherford, OK; Derek Lawrence, of Chickasha, OK; and Aaron Lawrence, of Stillwater, OK; great-grandchildren, Dani Boelte and Oakley Boelte, of Weatherford, OK; along with numerous extended family, relatives and friends; and one loving dachshund, Echo.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to American Legion Post 91 of Weatherford, OK; Emmanuel Baptist Church of Weatherford, OK; Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief; and Faith Hospice of Weatherford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses and Carrie; his brother Gerald Lawrence; his sisters Carol Lawrence and Juanita Davis; his son, Andy Lawrence; and his granddaughter Rachel Lawrence.
