Memorial services for Ola Mae (Newman) Rhoads, 84 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Friday, August 22, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at the Church of Christ with Don Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Poage Cemetery, northeast of Colony, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Ola Mae was born October 12, 1929, in Cold Springs, Oklahoma to Roy E. and Julia (Beckham) Newman and passed away August 18, 2014, while at Weatherford Regional Hospital. Ola Mae spent her early years in Cold Springs, Oklahoma. After that her family of three sisters (Ollie Bea, Oleta Faye, and Ona Marie) and one brother (Oarn Oland) lived in Colony. They were the children of Roy and Julia (Beckham) Newman. Roy had two sons (William and Elmer) by a previous marriage. Ola Mae graduated from Colony High School in 1947 and married Wetzel Rhoads November 6th, 1948.
Ola Mae and Wetzel loved to fish, travel to Mail Carrier Conventions, garden, spend time with kids, grandkids and great grandkids, and play cards and dominoes with their many friends and family. She spent 30 years volunteering at the Weatherford Hospital where she met and enjoyed friendships with Doctors, Nurses, staff, and patients. She was a devoted member of the Weatherford and Colony Churches of Christ, where she spent many happy times attending services and helping with church activities.
Ola Mae worked all her life, helping in the fields on the farm, later owning and running the Colony Drug, working at Owl Photo in Weatherford, and later at Wal-Mart in Weatherford.
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends in Hydro, Colony, Weatherford, members of the National and Oklahoma Rural Letter Carriers Associations, the Weatherford Hospital, and all those blessed by her cheerful presence.
Ola Mae is survived by a sister, Ona Marie; a son, Ronny (wife Pam); a daughter, Shirley Waters (husband Mike), grandchildren: Michael (wife Dawn), Jacob, Angela, Robby (wife Tonya), Stephanie, and Sylvia; and seven great-grandchildren: Emilee, Reid, Rylee, Elle, Dillon, Quintin, and Kaydence. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ollie Bea, Oleta Faye, brother Oarn Oland, and loving husband of 63 years Wetzel Rhoads.
