Norval Ralph
Magill
November 30, 2014
Funeral services for Norval Ralph Magill, 86 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, December 4, 2014, 1:00 P.M. at the Federated Church with Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Ralph was born November 4, 1928, on the family farm west of Custer City, Oklahoma to Ralph Otho and Lillie (Wilson) Magill and passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital in Clinton, Oklahoma. Ralph attended grade school in Arapaho and had lots of memories of his first job, a paper route, while the family lived there. He continued his education in Weatherford when his family moved into town in 1942. He began working for Albert Eaton at Eaton Drugstore on Main Street and started his path to the pharmacy profession at Mr. Eatons encouragement. Ralph graduated from Weatherford High School and married Priscilla Fay Porter in 1946. He completed his degree at Southwestern State College and finished Southwestern Pharmacy School in one of its early graduating classes in 1950.
In 1952, they moved with their son, Bruce to Crockett, Texas and later Diboll, Texas where Ralph managed drugstores. They lived in Diboll from 1951 to 1960, where their son Mike was born. Some of Ralphs fondest memories were of their experiences and friendships in East Texas.
The family moved to Altus in 1960 where Ralph managed Bunker Hill Drugstore, then after a brief stay in Shawnee, they moved to Oklahoma City where Ralph was pharmacist at Sheen Drug on May Avenue.
The Magill family decided to return to their family and friends in Weatherford when Ralph purchased Allen Pharmacy located in the original Eaton building where he began his career. Magill Drug was a favorite for not only prescriptions, but its snack bar from 1969 until 1988. After his beloved wife, Pris died in 1987, he established the Magill Eastside Pharmacy and operated it until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed his friends at the Maple Street Townhouses and also his friends and employees of Weatherwood.
Ralph was an avid Bob Wills and Country Swing fan, and especially loved the fiddle music. He rarely missed a weekend music show at Denzle Minyards place, and he always had a front row seat at Jim Tanners music barn. Genealogy was another favorite pass time that he shared with family, especially his nephew, Jim Johnson.
A long-time member of the Federated Church in Weatherford, Ralph served for many years on the Property Committee. He headed up the Mens Club and was always eager to help when the Chili Supper came around every January. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was always ready to participate in any of Weatherfords downtown promotions. Some of his fondest memories were the times he employed SWOSU pharmacy students at the drugstore who became his second family. Many returned in October of 2013 when Ralph was honored by the Pharmacy School for his service and example.
Ralph especially loved the friendships he made playing golf with Bill Dawson, Travis Digby, A.H. Eaton, Pete Collins, Marven Janzen, and many others.
Memorials may be made to The Federated Church Memorial fund.
Ralph is survived by his two sons, Bruce Magill and wife, Terry and Mike Magill and wife, Pam all of Weatherford, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Matt Magill and wife, Megan of Tyler, Texas, Wes Magill and wife, Karen of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Ben Magill and wife, Molly of Dallas, Texas, Mika Weist and husband, Richard of San Marcos, Texas, and Patrick Magill of Weatherford, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members. He loved his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla; his parents; a brother, Freemont Magill; and two sisters, Nellie Tuley and Niath Armstrong.
