Funeral services for Nellie Louise Verhines, 100 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015, 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Nellie was born May 3, 1915, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma to Raymond and Tilly Schaffenberg and passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Weatherford Living Center. Nellie was raised and attended school in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma and graduated as valedictorian from Lone Wolf High School in 1933. She attended Southwestern State College for 2 years where she met Paul Verhines. On June 10, 1934, they married in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. They made their home in Weatherford, Elk City, Los Angeles, California, and settled back in Weatherford. Nellie volunteered as a Pink Lady at Southwestern Memorial Hospital for 11 years. She also worked at Owl Photo, Kelleys Jewelers, and also worked alongside Paul in their general store and owned rental property. Nellie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, her grandchildren, and Bridge Club.
Nellie is survived by one son, Donald (Pam) Verhines of Hill Top, Texas; one daughter, Carolyn Snavely of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Mark Snavely, Chris (Rhonda) Snavely, Kim (Mark) Verhines, and Bill Verhines; six great-grandchildren, Raquel Snavely, Amanda Snavely, Brianna (Morgan) Mock, Brooke (Ryan) Hukill, Whitney Pettit, and Garrett Pettit; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Hukill, Lindsay Hukill, Taylor Hukill, Jackson Hukill, Jace Hukill, Mason Mock, and Landon Mock. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Edith Ames, Jo Anne Headrick, and Madge Marie Wallace; and one great-grandson, Corey Pettit.
