Nancy Jane
Young
September 26, 1940 – January 25, 2022
Nancy Jane Young was born September 26, 1940, in Dallas, TX to J.D. and Cora Lee (Tandy) Wright and passed away at home on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 29 days.
Nancy was raised and attended school in Perryton, TX and attended college for two years at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX. She was quite transparent about her reason for attending college…it was not to earn a degree, but to catch a husband and that she did. Before marrying, she did claim the crown and title of Miss Perryton and chose not to pursue the coveted title of Miss Pancake in order to marry the love of her life. On January 19, 1961, she married James (Jim) E. Young. They made their home in Oklahoma City, OK and nine months later celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Timmie Dee. Shortly after that Jim got a job with Hughes Tool Co. and they moved to Chickasha, OK. While there, they were blessed with the birth of a son, Jimmy Joe. In 1966, the Young family transferred with Hughes Tool Co. to Weatherford, OK where Jim and Nancy planted roots deep, raised their children, and have lived for 56 years.
Nancy was not only a homemaker that devoted her life to caring for her husband and home as well as raising her children, but she also loved being around people and being involved in the community and school events of Weatherford. She tirelessly served as a homeroom mom and a class parent for years and loved being at every event Timmie Dee and Jimmy Joe were involved in. If you ever attended one of their basketball games, you could always pick her voice out of the crowd cheering the teams on. Nancy invested many hours in serving her community. That ranged from being involved in chairing the United Way Campaign, to coaching and umpiring Little League baseball and softball games, to serving on the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee using every opportunity to promote the wonderful attributes of her town. Many have memories of Nancy modeling for Hutto's and The Kloset in a yearly event to raise money for the Weatherford Public Schools and other community causes. Through the years she was a member of First Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi, PEO Chapter GE, and Athenian Club. Nancy was also an avid bowler and enjoyed playing bridge.
The joy of Nancy's life and the apple of her eye in her mid to later years were her five granddaughters and four great grandchildren. She relished her role as Nana and loved spoiling each and every one of them.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Young of their home in Weatherford; one daughter, Timmie Dee Swaim and husband, Richard of Weatherford; one son, Jimmy Joe Young and wife, Senea of Weatherford; one brother, Roger D. Wright and wife, Eleanor of Amarillo, TX; one sister-in-law, Carol Wright, of Melissa, TX; five grandchildren: Brittney Reed of Mustang, OK; Blake Hertz and husband, Matt, of Mustang, OK; Kallie Swaim, Kaycie Swaim, and Kambrie Swaim of Weatherford, OK; and four great grandchildren: Bentley Reed, Lainey Reed, Owynn Hertz, and Omrie Hertz. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tim Wright.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Nancy's caregiver, Janice Owens, and Tori and the Russell Murray Hospice team for the incredible care they gave to her the last 6 months of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Russell Murray Hospice, 2001 Park View Drive, El Reno, OK 73036.
