Myrtle "Myrt"
Irene Cloninger
October 6, 1932 – March 18, 2021
Myrtle Irene ("Myrt") Cloninger was born October 6, 1932 in Bridgeport, Oklahoma to Willie R. ("Bill") and Ida (Gifford) Wilson and passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Myrt was raised in Bridgeport; Borger, Texas; and Hydro. She graduated from Hydro High School in 1952. She married Lloyd Cloninger in 1954 in Yuma, Arizona. Myrt and Lloyd made their homes at Navy bases in Norman, Long Beach, Hawaii, San Francisco, and the Philippines. When Lloyd retired from the US Navy after 20 years, they made their home in Hydro. Myrt and Lloyd operated the Somewhere Else frame and art store in Hydro until Lloyd's death in 1999.
Myrt enjoyed painting and her work was cherished by all. When she found her young family in military base housing, she painted a beautiful scene on the living room wall to brighten their lives. She would frequently apply her skills to rocks, saw blades, barn boards, turtle shells, or whatever else she could find that would hold paint.
Myrt is survived by her daughters Michelle Cloninger of Hydro and Tina Hill and husband, Kelly of Yukon; son Eric Cloninger of Hydro; sister Linda Glasgow and husband, Dean of Weatherford; grandchildren Becca Sullivan and husband, Zach of Hydro; Kylie Sanders and husband, Chad of Edmond, Oklahoma; Chelsea Wood and husband, Roger of Weatherford; Elijah Cloninger of Hydro; Ysabeau Cloninger of Hydro; and four great-grandchildren, Kloey Wood, Sydnee Sullivan, Max Sanders, and Sutton Sanders.
Myrt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd; three brothers Ernest Wilson, Raymond Wilson, and Billy Wilson; one sister, Bertha Baker; daughter-in-law Jackie Cloninger; and a great-grandson Aiden Sullivan.
Donations in Myrt's memory can be made to the First Responders of the Hydro Fire Department.
