Funeral services for Mervine Joseph Koch, 81 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mervine was born February 23, 1935, in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Joseph F. and Rachel (Koch) Koch and passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mervine was raised and attended school in Weatherford, Oklahoma and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1953. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. He served as a parachute rigger from June 1957 to June 1961. On June 2, 1962, he married Genevia Crawford in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Mervine was a well-known and respected auto mechanic. They established their home in Weatherford with the exception of one year in Stratford, Texas, they have lived in Weatherford. He worked as an auto mechanic. Mervine was founder and co-owner of Weatherford Auto Clinic. He was employed with the 3M Company for 22 years before retirement in April of 1997. Mervine successfully completed 3Ms journeyman program to be a machinist. He and Genevia operated Heart and Home Catering Company for 40 years. Mervine enjoyed yard work, car shows, and coffee breaks. He loved visiting and helping their children with their projects. This included helping Michael build two homes, one in Cottage Grove, Minnesota and one in Luther, Oklahoma. He traveled with Christy to horse shows so she wouldnt be alone on the roads. He never met a stranger. Mervine and Genevia were blessed with 18 retirement years. They traveled a little, settling in as grandparents, later in life than most. Mervine continued serving with Sunday fellowship times as long as health allowed. He was a great trash carry-outer. Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts Troop #344 in Luther, Oklahoma (c/o Suzy Koch, PO Box 583, Luther, Oklahoma) or to Troop #355 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Mervine is survived by his wife of 53 years, Genevia Koch of their home in Weatherford, Oklahoma; a son, Michael Koch of Luther, Oklahoma; a daughter, Christina Felder and husband, Mark of Edmond, Oklahoma; a brother, Malvin Koch and wife, Dyann of Weatherford, Oklahoma; a sister, Izetta Watson and husband, Jim of Newcastle, Indiana; a grandson, Jacob Koch; three sisters-in-law, Goldie Koch of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Janetta Kennedy of Ripley, Oklahoma; and Gennie Ann Goodman of Dallas, Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Suzy Koch of Luther, Oklahoma and her children, Vince and Tony Balderaz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Koch; and a sister, Loretta Bass.
