Obituary

Melvin Chisum of Hydro, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on September 5, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born October 12, 1944, to Leonard Albert and Floy "Jack" (Seal) Chisum.

Melvin graduated from Hydro Public Schools in 1962. That same year, he married Earline Kimble and made the decision to give his life to Christ. Together they built a family and raised three children: LaDonna, Lynette, and Tyler. In 1981, he married Patsy Baker, whose son, Darin, became a cherished part of the family.

He was a great dad who taught his children the lessons, values, and strength that helped make them who they are today. His love for his family was evident in the way he lived his life and in the lasting impact he had on those around him.

Anyone who knew Melvin knew his humor. He was famous for his one-liners and "Melvin-isms," and even at 81, they never slowed down - the comebacks came faster than anyone could keep up with. He loved telling jokes, and those who knew him well understood his soft spot for Disney.

Melvin was honest and direct - nearly everyone in his life received a dose of his wisdom at one time or another, whether they asked for it or not. He had a way of teasing and giving people a hard time, but if he picked on you, you knew it was his way of showing that he cared. Many saw him as a tough guy, but underneath was a deeply loving and devoted man. Nothing showed this more than the way he cared for Patsy through her battle with dementia.

Melvin is survived by his children, LaDonna and husband E.D. Maxwell of Great Falls, Montana, Lynette Thompson and husband Ken of El Reno, Tyler and wife Julie of Hydro, Darin Paoli and wife Mason of Kansas City, Missouri; Stanley Paoli and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Chase Ladd, Derek Chisum and wife Paxton, Toby Chisum, Jacob Paoli, London Paoli, Priscilla Paoli and Sydney Paoli; great-granddaughters Wrenlee and Oakley Chisum; brother-in-law, Terry Baker and wife Cathy of Butler, Stephanie Whittington and husband Rick and Jason Baker, and his dog "Bones".

He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, Patsy, his brothers Milton and Roy, and his 30 uncles/aunts and their spouses, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buss and Erma Baker.

Special thanks are extended to Good Shepherd Hospice, and especially his fabulous nurses Tressa and Melissa, for their kindness and dedication.

Services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 am at Hydro First Baptist Church in Hydro, Oklahoma.

Memorials can be made to Hydro Fire Department and First Responders
