Maude Jean (Wahnee) Washa was born to Myers and Maggie Tahome (Poolant) Wahnee on October 9, 1952, in Anadarko, Oklahoma and passed away on March 5, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Maude was one of 7 children in the Wahnee family. Many years of Maude's childhood were spent in Pawhuska, Oklahoma before the family moved to Anadarko in 1963. She was active in the high school marching band and was a member of the Indian Club at Anadarko High School, graduating in 1970.
After high school, Maude studied Art at Southwestern State College. This is where she met Jasper Homer Washa and they were soon married. The couple made their home in Weatherford and welcomed two sons, Jasper, Jr. and Stephen. Maude worked at 3M until they moved to Oklahoma City where she was employed with Walmart. In 1991, they moved back to Weatherford and drove semi-trucks for a brief time. Maude soon became a homemaker and also took care of her nephew, Cameron.
Maude loved sewing, going to the casino and playing bingo. She was also a part of her grandchildren's lives and enjoyed time spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Myers and Maggie Wahnee; husband, Jasper Washa, Sr.; son, Jasper Washa, Jr.; sister, Blanche Wahnee; brother, Stuart Wahnee; and grandparents, Stephen James and Metah Jane (Goombi) Poolant.
Maude is survived by her son, Stephen Washa; sisters, Wanda Priddy and Joy Wahnee; brothers, Myers Wahnee, Jr. and Ernest Wahnee; grandchildren, Nickolas Washa, Ailill Washa, Alexander Washa, Connor Washa, Braden Washa; and nephew, Cameron Yazzie.
