Mary Ellen Wood, 70 year-old Thomas, OK resident, was born on January 19, 1947 to John and Mary (Penny) Edwards in Big Spring, Texas and passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at her home in Thomas, Oklahoma.

Mary was raised and attended school in La Mesa, Texas. On March 3, 1963 she married James Wood in Big Spring, TX. She attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Accounting. She lived in Hobart, Oklahoma for 18 years. In 1988 she moved to California where she worked for Farmers Insurance for 16 years. In 1998, Mary and James returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Claremore. She worked in Tulsa at Thrifty Automotive until her retirement in 2014. She moved to Thomas later that year. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren, bowling, cooking, sewing, and reading. She will be remembered by her grandchildren as "Mammy."

Mary is survived by her husband, James Wood of the home in Thomas, OK; one son, Bryant Wood and his wife Karen of Paris, TX; two daughters, Ann Speck and husband Robert of Kingston, OK, and Donna Moore and husband Michael of Thomas, OK; one brother, Roy Edwards and wife Betty; four sisters, Penny Spencer, Vickie Crawford and husband Timothy, Dolly Allen and husband Kenneth, and Betty McVay; Mammy had eleven grandchildren, Melody Snay and her husband, Alan, Megan Washington and her husband, Sonny, Merideth Gifford, Savanah Wood and Travis Bitting , Staci McCrary and her husband, Levi, Randall Porter and Jamie Harper, Shayna North and her husband, Joey, Chacotaw Moore, Nathan Wood, Marissa Wood and Mariah Wood; and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Mariah; six brothers, John Jr., James, Frank, Billy, Jack, and Tony; and two sisters, Joyce and Mary.
