Obituary

Mary Frances Page was born June 25, 1929, in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Ernest and Iva (Kirkland) Maynard and passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at her home in Weatherford, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and.

Times were tough in the late twenties to early thirties when Mary was born. Families worked hard to be able to support themselves. Having three older brothers to help show her how to do daily chores was a huge help to her parents. As time passed being the oldest girl in the family of 7 children Mary took on many roles to help her family. Her siblings might have thought she was a little bossy.

Ed asked Mary's dad for his blessing to marry her while he was up on top of a wind mill. After receiving Mary's dad's blessing they ran off and got married in Cordell, Oklahoma a couple months after she graduated high school in 1948. They had lunch at a Cordell diner where they celebrated their wedding day with ham and cheese sandwiches, then went to the grocery store and bought a trunk load of groceries for $35.00 to stock their pantry. Mary went to work at the Tip Top Ice Cream Parlor and then TG&Y. She also worked at Russman's 5 & 10 for about 3 years. In 1958, she started attending SWOSU in the business department but changed over to education department. Mary worked in the registrar's office on campus while going to college. She did her student teaching in Hinton, Oklahoma and graduated in 1962.

Mary's first teaching job was in Cowden, Oklahoma. She taught 4 th & 5 th grades there for 2 years. She then went to Gotebo schools where she taught 1 st grade for 3 years. She then was hired in Weatherford as the Title 1 Reading instructor. She taught reading for 15 years, and the last 5 years she was the principal at East Elementary School.

Mary was a member of the Weatherford Church of Christ, Kappa Kappa lota and Retired Educators. She and Ed were Meals on Wheels volunteers after they both retired. She enjoyed Curves for Women and Water Aerobics at the YMCA. Many mornings she met and read with children at Burcham Elementary for the Early Bird Reading program. Mary and Ed enjoyed traveling in their camper, countless livestock shows, bluegrass festivals, fishing, and anything that her grandkids were involved in.

Mary is survived by one son, David Page of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Darla Lowry and husband, Tim of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one brother, Earl Maynard and wife, Janice of Arco, Idaho; one sister, Eula Fay Payne Constien of Weatherford, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, R.L., Ward, and D.V.; and two sisters, Alice and Vergie Mae.
