Obituary

Marvin Frederick Wiebener, beloved husband, father, Granman, and great Granman, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born on April 30, 1943, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Paul Frederick and Veva Lucille (Wagner) Wiebener, Marvin spent his early years in Alva. After spending some time in Colorado, he returned to Alva High School, graduating with the Class of 1961. He went on to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps for three years.

Following his honorable service, Marvin resumed his studies at NWOSU and, in 1966, married the love of his life, Nancy Egner. The couple made their home in Alva, where Nancy taught elementary school while Marvin completed his bachelor's degree. Together, they raised two children, Erik and Erin. Marvin pursued his passion for helping others by continuing his education, earning a Master's in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio after starting his graduate work in Chicago.

In 1974, the family returned to Oklahoma where Marvin began a meaningful and impactful career in social work and juvenile justice. He served at the Helena State School for Boys and later at the L.E. Rader Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Sand Springs. His leadership and dedication led him to become Vice President of Avalon Correction, where he oversaw juvenile delinquent centers across a three-state region.

After Nancy's passing in 1994, Marvin found love again and married Peggy Elaine Hunt in 1996. The couple built a life together in Tulsa before eventually settling in Thomas, Oklahoma, following Marvin's diagnosis of Primary Lateral Sclerosis in 2002. Though his diagnosis brought new challenges, Marvin's strength, humor, and love for life remained unshaken.

A proud Sooner fan, Marvin never missed an OU football game and was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren—racing them around the circle drive in his wheelchair, creating scavenger hunts, or sharing stories from his life. In his retirement, he became a published author with the release of The Margin in 2006 and The Mariah Ruse in 2008, continuing to inspire others through his words.

Marvin will be remembered not only as a resilient fighter and strong-willed Marine but also as a devoted family man, a passionate advocate for youth, and a man who lived life with adventure and perseverance.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Wiebener of the home in Thomas; his son, Erik Wiebener and wife, Angela of Broken Arrow, and their sons, Jacob and Joshua; his daughter, Erin Butler of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter, Tamara Walker-Dumas and husband, Greg of Tampa, Florida, and their children, Elizabeth Dumas, Ezekiel Dumas, and Victoria Anderson and husband, Trent, along with their two children; and son, Tyler Walker and wife, Teri, and their children, Thaddaeus and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Veva Wiebener, and his first wife, Nancy.

Marvin's life was a testament to dedication, love, and strength. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and deep family bonds that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
