Marjorie L.
Shantz
September 25, 1923 – April 3, 2025
Marjorie L. Shantz was born September 25, 1923, in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, to Harvey R. and Mary Amelia (Detweiler) Miller and passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at St. Anthony Hospital in Midwest City, at the age of 101 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Marjorie was raised and attended school in Neshannock Falls, PA through the 8th grade. As a young woman, she and her sisters did housecleaning, and were highly sought after, and she worked at a grocery store. Marjorie married Melvin Shantz on May 9, 1958, in the Maple Grove Mennonite Church in New Wilmington, PA. They made their home on a farm north of Hydro. Besides raising four kids and the usual household tasks, she tended a big garden and the products of her labor fed her family. She sewed all her and her daughter's dresses, cared for family pets, mowed the lawn and still found time to complete her one "farm" chore of cleaning the bulk milk tank several times a week. Marjorie made holidays and birthdays special for her children while sacrificing luxuries for herself. Later in life, she cleaned houses and did hand quilting for others; many reaped the benefits of her time and energy. Marjorie was always available to help with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and in doing so, had a huge impact on their lives. She didn't teach with many words; instead, she led by example. She was spunky, had a good sense of humor and never complained. In her spare time, she enjoyed fixing puzzles, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and watching hummingbirds at her feeder.
Marjorie is survived by one son, Tim J. Shantz and wife, Susan of Weatherford; two daughters, Lyn King and husband, Joel of Campbell, California and Anita Anderson and husband, Tommy of Thomas; son-in-law, Tom Loken of Thomas; two sisters, Geraldine Schwartz of Pennsylvania and Rudelle Matthews of Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Gloria Loken; an infant son, David Shantz; two sisters, Virginia Hess and Norma Shantz; and one brother, Marvin Miller.
