Funeral services for Marjorie Laurene (Pitzer) Ramey, 90 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the Southwestern Christian Church with Doyle Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Marge was born June 7, 1923 in rural Weatherford to Charles Andrew and Magdalene (Ghering) Pitzer and passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford. Marge attended rural Cedar School and then graduated from Weatherford High School in 1939. She then graduated from the Clinton School of Cosmetology and worked in that profession until marrying Herschel Glendon Ramey on November 14, 1942 in Weatherford. They made their first home in Washington, D.C. where Herschel was stationed with the Navy as an instructor in Gunnery School. In 1945, while in Washington, D.C. their first son, Charles Everett Ramey was born. Alter WWII, they made their home in Oklahoma where in 1949 second son, James Dale Ramey was born. They lived in Oklahoma until 1960 when Herschel entered full time ministry in the Christian Church. They served churches in southwest Missouri and Oklahoma for 33 years. Marge worked as an insurance secretary for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
Marge was baptized into Christ at an early age and was a member of Southwestern Christian Church in Weatherford at the time of her death. Marge loved her family, church, friends, cooking, crocheting and reading.
Marge is survived by her two sons, Charles E. Chuck Ramey of Pueblo, Colorado and James D. Jim Ramey and wife, Melodee of May, Oklahoma; one special sister, Melva Dickey and husband, Glenn of Weatherford, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Ruth (Dibler) Pitzer of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Geneva (Pigg) Pitzer of Spencer, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herschel; one sister, Mary Alice Mavis (Pitzer) Jones; and two brothers, Hubert Pitzer and Dale Pitzer.
