Graveside: 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 21st, 2017Union Hatchett Cemetery

Graveside services for Loyd Avant, 83 year old Corn, Oklahoma resident, will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Union Hatchett Cemetery of Bessie, Oklahoma with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Loyd was born February 25, 1933 in Corn, Oklahoma to Homer and Anna (Ediger) Avant and passed away on February 18, 2017 at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. Loyd was raised in the Corn area and graduated from Corn high school in 1951. After high school, he was drafted to the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. On August 26, 1955, he married Wanda East in Cordell, Oklahoma. They made their home in Dallas, Texas where Loyd worked for Wilson Sporting Goods. In the early 1970s, Loyd and Wanda moved to a farm in Quitman, Texas. They ran cattle and Loyd owned and operated a tractor repair business. He also ran a dozer service and did dozer repair on the side. Loyd and Wanda were very active in the Lake Fork Baptist Church in Quitman, Texas. In 2009, they returned to the Weatherford area to enjoy their retirement and be close to family. Loyd enjoyed gardening, fishing, and repairing tractors. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Loyd is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home in Weatherford, OK; one brother, Floyd Avant of Altus, OK; one sister, Dorothy Bury of Weatherford, OK; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sam and Velmer; and one sister, Lorena.
