Lillian Byers was born in Okeene, OK, on March 27, 1919, and passed away March 5, 2014, surrounded by family at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

Lillian Lucille Byers spent most of her nearly 95 years in western Oklahoma. Born to Peter and Eva (Weigand) Lehr at their home outside of Okeene, OK, she joined a 2-year-old brother Ivan. She was soon followed by 3 other siblings: Evelyn, Dorothy, and Gwendolyn. As the oldest daughter she honed skills and a temperament that would serve her well all of her life.

Lillian was raised and attended school in Southard, OK. On April 17, 1937, she married John Jacob Byers in Fairview, OK. They made their home in Southard where she had been employed doing domestic work like ironing and cleaning homes. While married she enjoyed being active in Home Demonstration Club and the Round Up Club. They had 2 children, Janice Yvonne, born in 1939, and Wanda Lucille, in 1944. Her husband passed away in 1962, prompting a move to Weatherford.

Teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School was merely one way Lillian filled up her time. She initially did this in a 1-room country school house, then at Canton FBC, and eventually at Weatherford FBC. After moving to Weatherford, she worked in the hospital cafeteria and at Dairy Boy. For 30 years she worked as a housekeeper at FBC Weatherford.

Her hobbies included riding horses in her younger years, singing, and quilting. She was a loyal church choir member until 2010 when climbing stairs into the choir loft became too much of a challenge, but she still sang from her seat. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren relish the quilts that she and her daughter Wanda have blessed them with over many years.

Although it was said she retired at the age of 90 from working at the church, she never really retired from serving her Lord. A diligent reader of the Bible and lover of Christ, she was always willing to share her heart and wisdom with others. She did this with a loving, yet, no-nonsense kindness. Her faith and servants heart was apparent to anyone who met her, and her unwavering strength, both physical and spiritual, inspired her family and many others. She was a constant, a pillar, a warrior, a consoler, a teacher, and grace defined.

Lillian is survived by her daughter Janice Hix and son-in-law Donald, her daughter Wanda, all of Weatherford; four grandchildren: Tracy Carroll of Burleson, TX, Mark Hix and wife Angela of Weatherford, OK, Jon Hix of Novi, MI, and Meri Hix of Edmond, OK; and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, three sisters, and one great-granddaughter Emily Hope Thomas.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Weatherford, OK.
