Funeral services for Lendola Blanche Helvey, 90 year-old Colony, Oklahoma resident, will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Colony Baptist Church with Jim Constant officiating. Burial will follow in Van Dyke Cemetery, south of Colony, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Lendola was born October 1, 1921, south of Colony, Oklahoma, to George Riley and Lena Mae (Graham) Harmon and passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Lendola was raised in the Colony and Cowden areas and graduated from Cowden High School in 1939. She worked in the local grocery store in Colony after graduation. On December 27, 1941, she married Arnold Helvey and they made their home in Sherman, Paris, and Vernon, Texas for the following 10 years where she worked in a grocery store. It was at Vernon that she accepted Christ as her savior as a result of door to door evangelism. In 1951 they moved 2 miles south of Colony, and started a dairy farm and continued that business for the next 40 years. Lendola worked beside her husband getting up at 3-4 am every morning to milk and again in the evening. She was passionate about the care of her baby calves and could somehow make the sickest and weakest ones thrive. She was her grandchildrens biggest fan at their sporting events and also encouraged them to excel academically. Lendola was famous for her coconut cream pies, her expert sewing ability and she loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Jaxon, Avery, Olivia, Tatum, and Tinlee. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard, and riding the 4 wheeler to check cattle until the age of 89. She greatly treasured her church and her church family and faithfully served there for many years.

Lendola is survived by one son, Dr. Ron Helvey and wife Carolyn, of Mountain Home, AR; two daughters, Debbie Flaming and husband John, of Corn, OK and Marcia Mahurin and husband Steve, of Colony, OK. She has six grandchildren, Jason Helvey, of LA, CA, Brad Flaming and wife Cathy, of Edmond, OK, Michael Flaming and wife Mandy, of Ft. Worth, TX, Trent Flaming , of Yukon, OK, Courtney Burns and husband Aaron, of Weatherford, OK and Tracey Mahurin of OKC, OK; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Ellis; and one sister, Joyce.
