Obituary

Leela Blanche Lawles, 78 year-old Hydro, OK resident, was born on May 7, 1939 to Lloyd and Abby (Bailey) Huckabay in Sickles, OK and passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, OK.

Leela was raised east of Eakly, OK and attended school in Eakly, graduating from Eakly High School with the Class of 1958. On June 5, 1958 she married Donald Lawles in Eakly, and they made their home south of Hydro where she worked alongside her husband on the family farm. Leela's pride and joy was her family. There was nothing she loved more than attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. Leela was a devoted gardener. She was known for her bumper tomato crop and bountiful vegetables. She also was a phenomenal seamstress and would often do alterations for others. In her younger years, she played on a bowling league with her friends. She and Donnie enjoyed traveling, and especially liked taking their camper to the lake and to the mountains. Memorials may be made to the Hydro First Responders or the Hydro Veterans Memorial.

Leela is survived by one son, Chris Lawles and wife Donna of Hydro, OK; one daughter, Gay Thomas and husband Michael of Oklahoma City; one brother, Herschel Huckabay and wife Karen of Eakly, OK; four grandchildren, Jason Lawles and wife Amber of Weatherford, OK, Kyle Lawles and wife Natalie of Canyon, TX, Karissa Thomas of Stillwater, OK, and Matthew Thomas of Stillwater; and five great-grandchildren, Bayli, Bentli and Blayke Lawles and Mason and Maddox Lawles. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; two brothers, Weldon and Donnie; and one sister, Loretta.
