Leann Kay
Steen
December 31, 1957 – December 1, 2025
LeAnn Kay (Schmelzenbach) Steen was born on December 31st, 1957 in Nampa Idaho. She passed away on December 1st, 2025 in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 67.
At the age of three, she started her tradition of constantly moving with a move to South Africa as her parents started their missionary service. She spent most of her childhood there enjoying numerous pets including a monkey, time with grandparents, riding an ostrich, acting, Christmas vacations to the ocean and developing an intense fear of snakes that lasted most of her life. It was during this time she gave her life to Christ and started a deep relationship with him that lasted her entire life.
Upon reaching the age of majority, she returned to the States to attend Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK to study art. While there she met her first husband and they had a son, Jonathan, in 1981, She spent her early career as an interior decorator. On February 14th, 1990, she married the love of her life, Geron Steen, whose love for her was only eclipsed by his love for God. They enjoyed nearly 35 years together before he passed away earlier in 2025. During this time she discovered her favorite form of art which was glass lampworking.
As she approached empty nesting, she decided to flip the script and moved to Florida to be near her parents who had returned from Africa. She loved her time there spending time with family, friends and being active in several churches along the Gulf Coast. She said she would never move back to Oklahoma. However, God laughed and she had recently moved in with her son in Weatherford, OK. Her last few weeks were filled with the noise of her six grandchildren and surrounded by family who loved her.
LeAnn is survived by her son, Jonathan and wife Mitzi; mother, Beverly; grandchildren, David, Mikayla, Lakken, Alexander, Leah, and Brayden; as well as a brother, Harmon and sister, Pam.
She is preceded in death by her father, Harmon III and husband Geron.
