Lea Elma was born December 11, 1929 to Floyd Vinton and Nancy Carolyn (Fletcher) Fry and passed away peacefully at her home in Thomas on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Lea Elma was born and raised northwest of Thomas, Oklahoma and attended school for the first eight years at Pleasant Dale School before graduating from Thomas High School in 1947. After graduation, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to live and worked at S.H. Kress store while her boyfriend, "Slick" finished barber school. On March 27, 1948, at about 10:00 P.M. after "Slick" got off work at the barber shop, Lea Elma and Lue "Slick" Warren Slagle were married in the EUB Church parsonage in Thomas, Oklahoma. They made their home in Thomas where she worked for her brother-in-law and alongside her sister, Twana Mae at West Oil and Tire as a bookkeeper. Lea Elma also worked at Noonan, Lee Grocery, and Halle Grocery before taking the City Treasurer position while working in the water department in Thomas for 17 years before retiring in 1997. Lea Elma enjoyed traveling, trips on the Baldwin Bus, going to Las Vegas and gambling. She also loved working in her yard, reading at the pond while Slick fished, and spending time with her family and friends. Lea Elma was an active member of the First Christian Church, Rainbows, Sunny Circle Sewing Club, and VFW Women's Auxiliary. Lea Elma is survived by two daughters, Deborah Slagle and Charlie Clark of Thomas, Oklahoma, Susan Godwin of Thomas, Oklahoma; granddaughter Melissa of Fay, Oklahoma; two great-grandsons, Kendon and Kellan of Fay, Oklahoma; two brothers, Elton Fry and wife, Linda of Des Moines, Washington, Larry Fry of Thomas, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Bud Ames of Eckert, Colorado; and one sister-in-law, Bobbie Slagle of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter, Jessica Lea Godwin; one grandson, Landon Ray Godwin; two sisters, Twana Mae West and Lela Gay Ames; one brother-in-law, Bill West; one nephew, Jim West; and one niece, Cheryl Ames.
