Funeral: 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 28th, 2016"The Chapel" of Lockstone Funeral Home

Funeral services for LaVerne Darlene (Hamburger) Saylor, 93 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home with Harold Goldmann officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

LaVerne was born June 9, 1923, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, the first child born to Louie P. and Lydia (Schreiner) Hamburger and passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Weatherford Regional Hospital. LaVerne was raised and attended school in Weatherford and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to California and worked in Los Angeles. She returned to Weatherford in May of 1942. She attended Southwestern State College and took courses to enhance her secretarial skills. LaVerne was recruited and accepted a position with the Judge Advocate General, Department of the Army. In August of 1942, she left Weatherford and headed to Washington, D.C. to begin a 30 year career, 27 years in Federal Service and three years in private industry.

Shortly after the end of World War II, she met her husband-to-be, Samuel Leroy Lee Saylor. He served in the U.S. Navy. On May 3, 1947, LaVerne and Lee married in Washington, D.C.

LaVerne is survived by daughter, Linda Drake and husband, Dale of Omaha, Nebraska and a grandson, Christopher Pendleton of Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; and two brothers, Jerry and Arlie Hamburger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Destroyer Escort Historical Museum (DEHM), 141 Broadway, Albany, NY 12202.
