LaRue Jeannette Helzer was born September 2, 1941, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, to Leroy Barnett and Marie (Kennedy) Pope and passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024, at home in Weatherford, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 1 day.

LaRue was raised and attended school in Lawrence Harbor, New Jersey and graduated from Sayreville High School in 1959.  On November 17, 1972, she married Joe W. Helzer in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and made their home in Virginia Beach where she worked at an asphalt batch plant. After Joe completed his service in the Navy, they moved to Weatherford, OK where LaRue worked at Jerry's for 10 years. She retired after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. LaRue enjoyed being involved with VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteering at the VA Hospital in their comfort room.

LaRue is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Helzer of their home in Weatherford; two sons, Michael Helzer and William Helzer; her brother, Rusty Pope; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald Helzer; brother, George Pope; and sister, Annette Pope.
