Funeral services for Kurt Lee Linstead, 58 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, September 25, 2014, 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Earl Stephenson officiating.
Kurt was born May 12, 1956 in Hobart, Oklahoma to LeRoy and Rallene (Watkins) Linstead and went to be with Jesus Sunday, September 21, 2014, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Kurt was raised and attended school in Hobart, Oklahoma and graduated from Hobart High School in 1974. He earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. On June 25, 1977, Kurt married Patricia Gail Schmidt in Hobart. They made their home in Little Rock, Arkansas where he worked for Litton Medical Systems for two years. They moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma in May of 1978 when he started working as an Electrical Engineer for 3M Company, now Eastman Kodak, and he continued to work there until the present. He was an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School for many years and many age groups. Most recently he taught 20-Somethings and loved spending time with them and their families. He was on the Weatherford School Board for over a decade serving as the president for many years. His proudest achievements while serving were his great involvement in the planning and completion of the Weatherford Public Schools Performing Arts Center and being able to present both of his children with their high school diplomas. He also served on the Oklahoma State School Board. Kurt enjoyed golf, construction, woodworking, working on cars, power tools, Sooner football, and spending time with his family on vacations and with his childrens activities. He loved coaching his son Carsons basketball and baseball teams for many years and was a football referee. He also loved attending his daughter Brittons dance performances and even was in the cast of The Nutcracker one year.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patti Linstead of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his parents LeRoy and Rallene Linstead of Hobart, Oklahoma; his son, Carson Sawyer Linstead of Fort Worth, Texas; his daughter Charity Britton Young and husband Brandon of Birgden-Gangelt, Germany; one brother Greg Linstead and wife Lori of Moore, Oklahoma; one sister Sharon Reimer and husband Carl of Hobart, Oklahoma; one grandson Everett Leeam Young; one god-daughter Jordan Faith Qualls; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and other loved ones.
Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund that will award a high school senior pursuing a degree in the engineering and technology field and may be sent to the Kurt Linstead Scholarship fund through First National Bank and Trust of Weatherford to P.O. Box 311 Weatherford, OK 73096.
