Sammy "Kay" Dunbar was born February 6, 1936, in Lamesa, Texas to Edgar and Etta (Oneil) Dunbar and passed away at home in Weatherford on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Kay was raised and attended school in Lamesa, graduating with the Class of 1954. On January 29, 1955, he married Nelva Ferguson and they made their home in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he worked at Potash Mines. In 1958 they moved to Winters, Texas and worked for Pool Well Services as a heavy equipment operator and later moved to Perryton, Texas and Woodward while he continued to work for Pool Well Services. Kay went to work for Durango Services in the 1990's. He retired in 2017 at the age of 81 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Kay is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nelva of their home in Weatherford; one daughter, Leigha Helt and husband, Richard of Weatherford; one son, Kim Dunbar of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Cadie and Thad; and two great-grandchildren, Crue and Audie. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Melvin, Raymond, and Guy; and five sisters, Lorene, Nona, Ava, Edna and Bobby.
