Obituary

Kathy Hollister was called to her heavenly home peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 26, 2026. The family lost their beloved Mother, Wife and Grandma. Kathy was a dear friend to all.

Kathy was born on November 22, 1957 in Fullerton, California to Ronnie McCartin and her mother, Bernadine (Amanda) Waters Lopez. She was the youngest of 5 children and the only girl. She grew up a tomboy and loved being outdoors, and near the water.

Kathy was the proud mother of her two children, daughter, Jamie (Davis) Thomas, and son, Michael Davis. Pursuing a better job opportunity, she moved her family to Tucson, Arizona where her mother and step-father were living.

Kathy met Hilon H. Hollister, III during an adventure tubing down the Salt River in Arizona. They were introduced through his mother, Nina Taylor, who worked with Kathy at IBM. The couple married on December 11, 1986, in Tucson, Arizona. They were surrounded by family and loved ones in the living room of their family home. The family continued to make several trips each summer to tube along the river and camp, cherished memories they will carry forever.

For over 3 decades, Kathy worked as a production supervisor for a data manufacturing company. This job is what brought the family to Weatherford, Oklahoma. She was a boss that would get out on the production floor and work alongside her employees.  Leading by example, staff would trade amongst each other to join her crew.  She was known for being hardworking, fair, but having a little fun with her onery flair, while getting the job done. Over the years, she gained the respect of all those who worked for her and alongside her. Kathy started out at IBM, later 3M, and had the joy of working alongside her husband for two decades. Later, when 3M became Imation, their son, Michael, began working there with his parents as well.

In early 2000, Imation started closing as it transferred overseas. Kathy then started her adventure working at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in July 2008. At SWOSU, Kathy held many positions. She was voted favorite staff member by the students of the dorm she was assigned. She retired on June 30th, 2019 as the assistant manager to the University's cafeteria. She loved working with the students and being a host to the International Students for holidays, always inviting those without family to come celebrate with her own family.

After retirement, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family, and her dogs: basset hound, Janis and her protector, Sig, a rottweiler, who were both spoiled beyond measure. The family enjoyed camping at the lake often. Kathy and Hilon would pull the camper to the lake and the kids would come and visit. She always loved being near the water. Kathy had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and having flowers around the house. The couple also enjoyed riding on their Harley-Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle. They took yearly trips to Laughlin, Nevada to visit Hi's mother and step-father, going to motorcycle rallies. Their son, Michael, would often join them on these trips. Kathy and Hilon celebrated 42 years together in December.

Kathy was loved by all who encountered her. She would always make it a priority to include everyone and she never met a stranger. Making sure everyone was having a good time and getting fed was a priority to her. Kathy and her husband were known locally for their garage gatherings on Friday nights. "If the garage lights are on and the door's up, stop on by". And a good time was sure to be had by all who stopped.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Lorne Lopez; older brothers, Terry and Carey Hunt; father and mother-in-law, Marshall "Gene" and Nina Taylor; father-in-law, Hilon H. Hollister II, and his mother, Romaine Hollister. She was greeted by many other friends and family members who passed during her time with us.

She is survived by the loves of her life, her husband of 42 years, Hilon, of the home in Hydro, Oklahoma; daughter, Jamie (Davis) Thomas; son, Michael Davis of Hydro, Oklahoma, his daughter and her beloved granddaughter, Michaela Davis and her husband Dakota of Yukon, Oklahoma; brother, Kevin McCartin in Tucson, Arizona; and oldest brother, Barry Hunt and his wife, Pam of Lake Tahoe, California. Kathy also has several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, along with their children, living in Montana, Arizona, and New York. Her extended family also survive her, mother-in-law, Brenda Hollister and sister-in-law, Jada Hollister and husband Edwin, their children Emmerie and Elijah (Kathy's buddy).

Her many friends and coworkers will all grieve her sudden loss as well as all those who met her and loved her on this journey.

Lord our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but we take comfort in knowing you are with her. We thank you for the gift of our Mothers life. We are grateful for her selfless love, her sacrifices, and the lessons she taught us. May her memory be a blessing. May her soul rest in peace and her light continue to shine through us.
