Karen Jane Huckabay was born October 25, 1940, in Shattuck to Joseph H. and Inez Corine (White) Smith and passed away, Monday, January 4, 2021, at Weatherford Regional Hospital, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 9 days.

Karen was raised and attended school in Laverne and in 1956 the family moved to Oklahoma City, where she graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1958.  Upon graduation, she attended 2 years of college.  On November 11, 1967, Karen married Hershel Huckabay in Weatherford and made their home in Eakly where they raised their family.  She received Outstanding Young Homemaker Award in 1997.  Karen and Hershel fostered 94 children over a 7-year span and were well known by all children in the area.  Karen enjoyed collecting dolls, enjoyed children, and spending time with family and friends.  Memorials may be made to Swan Lake Baptist Church.

Karen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hershel Huckabay of their home in Eakly; four sons, Kendall Huckabay and wife, Kathy of Weatherford, Devin Huckabay and wife, Michelle of Mangum, Weldon Huckabay and wife, Stacy of Hinton and Jody Huckabay and Mindi Mobly of Weatherford; one brother, James Bradley "Jimmy" Smith and wife, Deann of Shawnee; one sister, Juanita Griswald of Augusta, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Harold, Wayne, John and Terry; and three sisters, Nellie, Shirley and Patty.
