Obituary

Joyce Ann Gentry was born September 6th, 1941, to Doyle and Jewel (McClintock) Gentry in Clinton, OK, joining her siblings, Glenda and Phyllis. Joyce passed from this life surrounded by her family November 25th, 2025, at the age of 84. Joyce graduated high school in Weatherford, OK in 1959 and went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Joyce married Dorsey Armstrong November 24th, 1962. Born to this union was Todd Grant and Jennifer Kate Armstrong. Dorsey was hurt in a rodeo accident in 1966, and Joyce became caretaker for him and running the farming operation. He passed in 1976.

Joyce met Charlie Kellogg in 1980, they married on November 21, 1980, adding Lisa and David Kellogg to the brood. They built a home on Joyce's beloved creek in Hydro, OK. They enjoyed going on the "Run of 89" wagon train and entertaining their grandchildren, from fishing on the creek with corn, to taking vacations to California, Missouri, and Colorado, even housing a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Ricardo. Charlie passed in February 2014. Joyce continued to live in their home until she moved to Lawton, OK in 2022 to be closer to family, then to West Wind assisted living in Marlow, OK in 2024.

Joyce was a Drum Major in high school. She began twirling in grade school and twirled all through high school and some in college. Joyce's love of dance started with her fascination with musicals and Ginger Rogers. After lots of begging she was able to start taking dance classes. She taught classes in high school, and she began Joyce's School of Dance in the basement of her home when Dorsey got hurt, eventually having to rent her own studio, when it outgrew the basement, in Weatherford, Clinton, and Elk City, teaching with her daughter, Jennifer. In 1981, she built her own studio in Hydro, OK where she continued to teach until her retirement after 50 years of teaching dance.

Joyce loved working with kids. She was a Den Mother for Todd's Cub Scout troop, assisted with 4-H, both children were involved with showing pigs, cattle, and horses and raised show pigs. She was a member of Oklahoma Dance Masters, holding the office of president. She worked with the boys at the Boys Home when it was south of Hydro and was an active CASA advocate. Her biggest love was spending time with her family, playing cards and winning, doing expert crossword puzzles, crafting, and teaching ALL of her grandchildren dance, including the boys.

Joyce loved her Lord. She was the greatest Prayer Warrior for her family and anyone who came in contact with her. Her favorite verse was written on the first page and last page of her bible. "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty." Zechariah 4:6 RSVCI.

She is survived by her son, Todd Armstrong and Kelly of Comanche, OK, stepdaughter, Lisa Roseman and Rob, stepson, David Kellogg, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hawkins, son-in-law, Rodney Herbert, sister, Phyllis Van Aken, sisters-in-law, Ramona Duff and Linnie Heard.
