Obituary

Joseph William "Joe" Dubey was born on April 20, 1928, in Amery, Wisconsin to Adelard and Susan (Winchester) Dubey and passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Joe graduated from Harding High School (St. Paul, MN) in 1946 where he loved playing football.  His graduation present from his father was a dime for the bus to take him to enlist in the Army.  A WWII veteran, Joe was stationed in Japan and a proud member of the VFW.  After serving his country, Joe attended the University of Minnesota and earned an Associate Degree in Business. In 1951, he began his 38-year career with 3M Company which took him from Minnesota to California and eventually to Weatherford, OK. Joe was the Human Resource Manager in Weatherford for many years and represented 3M at community events. He brought joy to hundreds of children at the annual 3M Christmas party playing Santa Claus for the children of 3M employees. Joe was proud to be a 3M'er!  When he retired in 1989, a street near 3M was named in his honor to recognize his impact on 3M and Weatherford.

Joe was introduced to the love of his life, Helen Stawnychy on a hayride.  Their love blossomed and Joe and Helen were married on December 29, 1951 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in White Bear Lake, MN.  Joe and Helen were blessed with five children.  Joe spent his free time cheering at his children's sports activities, playing golf, serving his community of Weatherford through the Chamber of Commerce (past President), Weatherford Opportunity Workshop (Board Member and Executive), Weatherford Hospital Board Member, Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow) and serving his church, St. Eugene's Catholic Church.  Joe was ordained a Catholic Deacon for the Archdiocese of OKC on November 14, 1986. He served his church as Deacon for 24 years. Joe officiated at hundreds of weddings, baptisms, and funerals, including his own daughter's wedding and his grandchildren Sarah and Andrew's baptisms.

During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Helen, driving his beloved '67 Dodge Dart convertible, continuing his volunteer work at church and in the community, serving on a Governor's Commission, spending time with his children and grandchildren and cheering on the Golden Gophers.  After retiring from 3M in 1989, Joe was asked by several local businessmen to run for Mayor of Weatherford.  Joe had no interest in being a politician, but wanted to continue to serve his community, so he agreed to enter the race for Mayor.  While the election did not go his way, his enduring commitment and love for his community was never more obvious as he campaigned (and lost) with integrity.

Joe is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Helen; his children, Mary Jo, David, Nicole (Fred) and Paul (Lisa); grandchildren, Nathaniel, Karley (Sonny), Sarah, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Xander and Jaxon.  Joe was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maxine and Tom; his son, Daniel; and daughter-in-law, Marcia.

Special thanks to Father Tran, the Carmelite Sisters, and the community, especially the chair volleyball team, and staff at Saint Ann Retirement Center. You all brought Joe immense happiness and joy over the past 8 months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Eugene Catholic Church, 704 N. Bryan St. Weatherford, OK or Special Olympics Oklahoma, 6835 S. Canton Ave., Tulsa, OK 74136.
