Obituary

Joi Catherine Albright was born on April 3, 1943, in Thomas, Oklahoma to Glenn and Anna Albright. She was known for her love for God and her family as well as her compassionate and selfless care for others. Her desire was always to serve rather than be served. At the age of fourteen she gave her life to Christ at First Baptist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma and when recently asked what she was most grateful for her immediate answer was her children and that Jesus saved her when she was fourteen.

On August 12, 1967, Joi married Darrel Wilson and together they raised four children, Cindi (Kirt) of San Angelo, TX, Todd (Dana) Wilson of Weatherford, OK, Matthew (Tobi) Wilson of Weatherford, OK, Andrew (Joyce) Wilson of Stillwater, OK. She was known by "Nana" to twelve grandchildren; Ashley, Katie, Abigail, Hannah, Sarah, Rachel, Jacob, Luke, Mark, Natalie, Carter, and Henry; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Joi graduated from Weatherford High School and later continued her education graduating from Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma) in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A life-long learner she completed a Master of Science in Nursing in 1978 from The University of Oklahoma and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1987.

Apart from her love for her family, her nursing career was a top priority. She believed being a nurse was a true calling from God on her life. She often said that God made her to be a nurse. Her career in nursing spanned decades and included time spent at Clinton Indian Hospital, an instructor in the Nursing Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and over thirty years as a psychiatric nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City where she was charge nurse on the geriatric psychiatric unit. While at St. Anthony's her caring spirit was not only for her patients but for her staff a well. She was known to make homemade biscuits after a bad shift and was also said to have spoiled her staff with her gingerbread cake.

On the job as well as in other areas of her life she had high standards and taught her staff that "we all put our pants on one leg at a time" and "that no job was beneath them." She was awarded the Daisy Award as a testament to her compassion, excellence, and commitment to exemplary care. Joi was committed to her church and made sure the family were all there every time the doors were open. She wanted each of their children to know Jesus and commit their lives to Him.

Joi also loved to serve her family and many others with her gift of cooking. Everyone loved to eat at Nana's. She was especially known for her homemade biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and pies. She said cooking never seemed like work to her. It was a true joy to serve others that way. It was one way she showed people she loved them and she often sent something homemade to others usually via her husband Darrel.

Joi's other loves included trees, flowers, her chickens, rocking her grandbabies and great-grandbabies, and her faithful dog Drake who was always by her side.

Joi was a quiet but strong and determined woman. She worked hard and persevered through many hardships to achieve her goals. That same strength and determination continued right up until the end of her earthly life. Early in the morning on December 23, 2025, Joi went to sleep in her home she loved so much and woke up in her new home in heaven that Jesus had been preparing for her. Finally, she knows perfect peace and fullness of joy in God's presence is hers. Her faith became sight. All is well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Anna Albright, her husband Darrel, her brother Richard Albright, her sister Beth Harding, and her daughter-in-law, Tobi Wilson. Joi is survived by her four children, her twelve grandchildren, her fifteen great-grandchildren, and her brother Jack (Betty) Albright.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Weatherford, Oklahoma.  Service is under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
