John David Sauer was born July 28, 1948, in Clinton, Oklahoma to David and Mary (Shelton) Sauer and passed away, on his birthday, July 28, 2018, at Clinton Veterans Center in Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years.
John was raised and attended school in Weatherford, graduating from Weatherford High School in 1966. He attended SWOSU for 2 years and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent his last year in the Navy on the Harold E. Holt, a fast frigate, which cruised up and down the coast of North Vietnam.
John married Carole Ann Kidd, his high school sweetheart, on May 22, 1970, in Hydro, Oklahoma. To this union three sons were born, Shad, Dustin, and Dane.
After his Navy discharge, he returned home to his wife and son, Shad, and enrolled in SWOSU, graduating in December of 1975. After John graduated he worked at 3-M from 1976 to 1998, 22 years. He then owned and operated a Hydro General Store (True Value) until he retired in November of 2013.
John was a member of the Hydro First Christian Church where he was a deacon and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled Veterans and Wounded Warriors.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and quail, tinkering with anything that needed fixed, and gardening. John was a quiet, proud, patriotic man and loved his family so much.
John is survived by his wife, Carole Sauer of their home in Hydro; three sons, Shad Sauer of Hydro, Dustin Sauer of Midwest City, and Dane Sauer of Stillwater; a niece, Tricia Barber and husband, Preston of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pat Sauer; niece, Brenda Smith; and in-laws, Ruby and Art Kidd and Willard Kidd.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation- Alzheimer's research, Hydro Fire Department or to Hydro 1 st Responders.
