Funeral: 10:00 AM Saturday, December 29th, 2012First Baptist Church

Funeral services for John William Metcalf, 65 year-old Tuttle, Oklahoma resident, will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Tuttle, Oklahoma with Rev. Rick Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Hydro Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

John was born November 15, 1947 in Ashdown, Arkansas to John and Bessie (Barrett) Metcalf and passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. John was raised in New Mexico and Odessa, Texas and graduated high school in 1965. He served with the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967 where he fought in the Vietnam War. While in the service he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Expert Badge in M-14 and M-60; and a Carbine Marksman Badge. John returned to Odessa, Texas where he worked in the oilfield until 2000. On December 29, 1989, John married Nancy (Patterson) Thompson in Midwest City, Oklahoma. They later moved to Tuttle where he was working as a court security officer for the Federal Court System and also was a concealed carry instructor. John enjoyed being with family and his grandchildren; being outdoors; had a great sense of humor; and loved John Wayne moviesWahaa. Did you ever experience a John Metcalf handshake?! John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nancy of their home in Tuttle, Oklahoma; two sons, Jay Metcalf and wife, Jill of Chattanooga, Tennesse and Clay Thompson of Bristol, South Dakota; two daughters, Marta Williams and husband, Chad of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jenny Folsom and husband, Chris of Tuttle, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Justin, Brad, Marlow, and Troy; and one great-grandson, Jaxson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles.
